In The Studio~Classic Swags And Cascades

Classic Style

Simple and Harmonious ~ Elegant

Design rendering for classic swags and cascades

The design rendering to show the client exactly what the treatment will look like in the fabrics we selected.

The swag and cascade is a timeless classic style window treatment. The fabric is cut in a rather odd shape.  Pleats are formed along the top with lots of fullness that falls into graceful curving swags.

The tapered and folded fabric along the sides is the cascade or sometimes called the jabot.  This design will have the cascade mounted underneath the swag.  A custom swag and cascade treatment dresses the window and frames a beautiful view.

Trend Fabrics Timeless Embroidery and RM Coco faux raw silk

Fabrics on the cutting table ready to be made into classic swags and cascades

Swags and cascades are best made from softly draping fabric like this beautiful embroidered fabric from Trend Fabrics.  The solid silk-like fabric from RM Coco will be the accent for the swag and the lining for the cascades.

Check back later to see how fabulous they’re going to look in my clients home. The motivation to redecorate……..their daughter is getting married this summer.  So exciting!

The room is going to be a beautiful backdrop for pictures!       xoxo

In The Studio~Underwater Theme For Cape Cod Dining Room

New England’s changing seasons bring a variety of weather but this Cape Cod home will be able to enjoy the feel of cool ocean waves and sandy beaches all year round.

Before

The naked window

The photo above is how the window looked when we began.  There was a 1″ metal mini blind for privacy and sun control. The client tells me the previous owners had a dark plaid on the windows; sounds more lodge than beach.

Materials

Ocean blue and sandy beige beach themed fabrics will be used to create this custom window treatment.

The statement fabric is from the  Barbara Barry Collection exclusive to Kravet Fabrics.  It is an exceptionally fine cotton from Italy.  The stripe will be used as the contrast lining.  The seersucker sea-foam stripe is reminiscent of rippling waves. Decorative trim cord will tie the treatment together as you would tie a boat to the dock.  Stripe fabric and decorative cord are from Trend Fabrics.

Dining Room Design

A simple scallop and cone valance is perfect to keep the focus on the large-scale of this undersea motif fabric. Cottage white Hunter Douglas Alternative Wood blinds will be added for privacy, sun control and security while maximizing the view.

The best way to envision how a custom window treatment will look on a window is to do a design rendering right on a photo of the actual window.

Did You Know……I Do Custom Bedding Too?

One aspect of the Etc. is custom bedding

A quick post on a Friday evening before I leave the studio.

I recently purchased new software that will help people envision their custom bedding options.  I would guess that you never thought of the hundreds, yes hundreds, of choices to cover your bed.

Pillow options for custom bedding

I spent the afternoon playing working on these pillow options for a 8-year old boy’s room in Holden, MA.  The tailored coverlet will have cording along the top edges so it will be fool-proof when he makes his own bed.  I’m giving him 3 pillow options, a bolster, 2 European shams or 1 wide European sham.

Which option would you choose?

RM Coco Fabric

This beautifully textured woven stripe from RM Coco is the fabric we selected for the bedding.
